Do you wonder what sort of inner process is happening in counselling?
I think there is still a bias around counselling. Some people think that counselling is for those who have “mental” issues or who are not capable of resolving their own issues.
I have a totally opposite idea.
For me, our emotional struggles and various life challenges can be a great opportunity for us to find greater joy of life through reflecting on our way of life.
Those problems are actually a message from our life that “you are suppressing your emotional truths.”
Cultivating our empathic presence with our emotional truths, whatever they are, leads us to deep self-acceptance.
Tara Brach says “The boundary to what we can accept is the boundary to our freedom.”
I have received an impression from one of my clients who have finished counselling recently.
It gives you a sense about what sort of inner transformation counselling may facilitate.

How are you, Seiko?
I went to Mt. Cook the other day. Weather was fantastic and I am completely satisfied that I saw a lot of beautiful scenery.
I am so happy for myself right now. I am delighted to be here because I have got a sense of happiness back again.
I couldn’t feel any joy a few months ago. I was thinking that I would work until the last minutes and just go back to Japan without doing anything fun like travelling.
I am able to feel joy again through practicing what you’ve taught me and reflecting on my way of thinking and way of being. I wasn’t aware of them at all until I had a counselling.
Counselling has allowed me to engage with my fundamental way of life, which is so fulfilling to me.
Life felt so hard before I did counselling. I couldn’t allow myself to be angry and to express myself honestly.
But as I learned to find my emotional truth and speak it, I have begun to feel lighter.
Although I can’t say that my days in New Zealand is all good, it has given me a great opportunity to learn so much through reflecting on myself.
I will do my best to continue to practice what I have learned through counselling.
I really appreciate you that I have become able to live my life with some sense of hope again.

I am also so happy to see her be able to enjoy her life again.
I feel privileged to be part of her important journey.
I have come to believe that it is our life that lets our problems manifest in order for us to learn to be all of ourselves.
How can we be true to ourselves?
